We are thankful for the beautiful weather for our trip. Everyone enjoyed the activities, and we witnessed our government in action during a House session. Our capitol is truly magnificent. Thank you to the homeroom moms for providing a treat for the children on the way home.

We have a trip to our middle school in Colesville on Monday. Letters regarding a parent meeting at the middle school were sent with the permission forms. A few permission forms still need to be returned.

We have some tests coming up this week. On Monday, we will have a social studies quiz covering the vocabulary learned so far in Chapter 3, along with a few compare/contrast questions. Mrs. Rouland's class will have that quiz on Tues. On Tuesday, we will have a reading test covering "Marven" along with the related skills of the verb "to be", prefixes mis, re, ex, and irregular verbs. Also on Tuesday will be a religion quiz covering lessons 16-17. On Thursday, we have an English test scheduled covering main/helping verbs, past tense, and past tense with have/had/has.

The children begin their Christmas vacation at 1:00 today, Dec. 21 and will return to school on Wed. Jan. 2. You may want to remind Santa that the children need new supplies for the remainder of the school year. Many are in need of glue or glue sticks, scissors, and crayons. Some are also missing their red pens to be used at home.

The scramble is on trying to reschedule events and activities after a snow day. We will still have the religion quiz on Monday covering lessons 7-8. The reading test and related skills for "Tanya's Reunion" will be on Tuesday. I'd like to quiz my math class on their division skills so far. That quiz will be either Mon. or Tues. Mrs. Rouland's class still has to take the social studies test. I'm really hoping I can fit that in before the vacation break.

The only test scheduled for this week is a Social Studies test. My class will take the test on Wed. and Mrs. Rouland's class on Thurs. The content will mainly cover the development of transportation. Refer to notes in notebook. Skills tested will be identification of states on a map and reading a time line.

It will be very similar to the first quiz. Mrs. Rouland's class will have the S.S. quiz on Tuesday. We have a reading test covering "Finding the Titanic" and related skills scheduled on Tuesday.

School is closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day. On Tuesday, both classes will have a Social Studies quiz on Lat/Long, vocabulary, continents and oceans. We have been reviewing in class. Students should look over their notebooks, and any worksheets we did in class.

We're off to a good start! The children are learning how to organize themselves and practice time-management skills. Remember to check the assignment book daily for assignments and notes from me. Help your child organize at home by checking off the assignments as they're completed. It gives a person a sense of accomplishment.

Thank you for helping to make our trip to Harrisburg a success. It was good to see the children enthusiastic about what they have learned in school, and then seeing it in the museum. Isn't that capitol building magnificent? Every year I marvel at the work and beauty of the building. Thanks to our room moms for the snack for the ride home. I'm happy that we all had an enjoyable day.

Catholic Schools Week is upon us. Many schedules for events went home last week. Grade 4 will attend the 1:30 assembly for storytelling on Mon. I also received this directive regarding the 4th grade assembly with musician, Dave Fry. Mr. Fry has requested that all 4th graders bring 1. Cool shades, 2. Hawaiian shirts, and 3. beach hats to the Thursday assembly. You should not go out and buy anything new.

The 3rd quarter begins on Monday. It seems that this is always the time of year that we need some refreshers. Please remember that candy is not to be brought for snack, nor any food that needs to be eaten with a utensil. Also, please remind the children about their responsibility to unpack their snack, and take their lunch/money to recess.
